OMC-2 is a star-forming region in the Orion Molecular Clouds, a cold filament of gas and dust behind the Orion Nebula. In this Webb NIRCam view, protostars, glowing outflows, dark dust globules, and newly formed stars share a single luminous field in the constellation Orion.
Infrared color reveals details hidden at visible wavelengths: blue and cyan scattered starlight, yellow-green molecular emission, orange-brown warm dust, and fine red ridges where jets from young stars excite the surrounding gas.
